What is Student Services at SDW, and how does it support my child and our family?
Student Services at the School District of Whiteshell is a team-based approach to supporting the whole child (academically, socially, emotionally, and physically). We ensure every student feels included, valued, and supported so they can reach their full potential.
Support begins with the Core Team (student, family, and classroom teacher) working together to understand each child’s strengths and needs to plan meaningful learning experiences. When additional support is needed, Student Services connects families and schools with specialized professionals such as guidance counsellors, resource teachers, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists.
Student Services supports all learners, not just those with identified needs, by providing strategies and supports that help students succeed. Families are valued partners in every step of the process, and at SDW, no student or family ever has to navigate challenges alone.

Our International Program is at risk of pausing due to a shortage of host families, and we are asking our community for support. This semester, we were happy to welcome five international students into our school, creating meaningful cultural exchanges for both students and families. However, the upcoming semester, we currently have zero placements available for any new students wanting to come to our division. This is not due to lack of interested students, but because we have no host families available to welcome them. With the community support we can continue to offer this vibrant, globally enriching program.
If you are or someone you know is interested in hosting, even short-term, your participation is valuable for our program and school. Please contact 204-753-8366 or thompsonv@sdwhiteshell.mb.ca
