June is Pride Month in Canada, a time to celebrate the diversity, voices, and contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
At Whiteshell School District, we are committed to fostering safe, welcoming, and inclusive schools where every student, staff member, and family feels respected, valued, and supported. We celebrate the diversity that enriches our communities and remain dedicated to promoting belonging, acceptance, and equity for all. 🌈💙💚💛🧡❤️💜

Key learnings from the conference included approaches to strengthening international student engagement, improving cross-cultural communication, and providing more responsive support services. Sessions also highlighted current challenges facing international students, including mental health, housing, immigration policy changes, and career development. The conference provided valuable opportunities to network with colleagues, exchange ideas, and learn about innovative programs being implemented at other institutions.
The knowledge gained from the conference has helped us to strengthen our program to include higher stipends for host families and a home stay training program to help have host families prepared for the arrival of students.

URGENT!! HOME STAYS NEEDED FOR 2026-2027 !!
We currently have 5 students wanting to come to our District and no host families!!
Opening your home to an international student is so much more than providing a place to stay — it’s creating friendships, sharing cultures, and helping a young person feel safe and welcome while they study far from home.
Many of our students arrive excited, nervous, and hopeful for connection. Host families become a huge part of that experience — often creating bonds that last a lifetime.
Right now, we truly need more families in our community to consider hosting. Without enough caring homes, programs like this become difficult to continue, and students may lose the opportunity to experience our community in such a meaningful way.
You don't have to a specific type of family to host.... couples, families with children, empty nesters — what matters most is kindness, inclusion, and a welcoming spirit. You can host 1 or 2 students at a time, there are short or long term students. We will be offering a higher stipend for families this year and referral bonuses!
If you’ve ever thought about hosting, now is the perfect time to learn more. We have short term students which is a great way to try it out. Your home could become a student’s home away from home. 🌍

Main 3 things we need from a host family is: 3 meals a day, a caring and nurturing home, and to just have fun!! There is always support from the local International Coordinator and other host families.
New this year we will have a host family training session online to help you feel more confident before your student arrives, and a higher monthly stipend to help with the extra costs. We really need the community to help with this program to make it a success.
